The Merloni family sold its controlling 60.4% stake in the company to US competitor Whirlpool for €758 million, bringing to an end four generations of family control. It was the largest producer of home appliances in Italy.

Ultra-high net worth individuals shifted their focus from wealth preservation to wealth growth in 2013, according to new research, as the wealth of the world’s high net worth population grew 14% to $52.6 trillion. 

The annual Capgemini/RBC World Wealth Report, which surveyed more than 4,500 individuals, found the world’s high net worth (HNW) population now sits at almost 14 million, up 15% on the previous year.

Mormon businessman Bill Marriott, who transformed his father’s restaurant business into a global lodging company, has put aside the religious values of his church to launch a marketing campaign celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) inclusion. 

Launched this month, the campaign, which features transgender model Geena Rocero and gay basketball player Jason Collins, includes a series of billboards and a dedicated website where customers are invited to share their travel stories on social media using the hashtag #LoveTravels.
